Such lending is included within the total of bank lending to persons, which is itself a relatively small part of total bank lending. To impose direct controls exclusively on this form of lending would tend to encourage the growth of other forms with little net impact on the growth of credit in total. However, credit card lending, like any other, will be affected by our interest rate policy.
