HL Deb 20 November 1979 vol 403 c109WA
Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will ensure that cider of 9 per cent. alcoholic content and below will he exempt from the proposed EEC tax on alcoholic beverages.

The MINISTER of STATE, TREASURY (Lord Cockfield)

Discussions on the Commission's proposals for harmonisation of excise duties on alcoholic drinks are proceeding very slowly. The Government will however seek to ensure that the interests of the cider industry and other affected industries are taken fully into account in any agreement reached.
