HC Deb 15 November 1979 vol 973 c729W
Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what recent representations he has received about the proposed closure of secondary schools, including Highbury Grove, in the Inner London education authority area; and what replies he has made.

Dr. Boyson

Under section 13 of the Education Act 1944, the Inner London education authority has submitted proposals to the Secretary of State (a) to cease to maintain Highbury Grove and Sir Philip Magnus boys schools and to establish a new boys comprehensive school in the premises of Highbury Grove school; and (b) to cease to maintain Highbury Hill high and Shelburne girls schools and to establish a new girls comprehensive in the premises of Highbury Hill school. The schools concerned are in the London borough of Islington.

A number of representations have been received on both proposals and they will be fully considered by my right hon. and learned Friend in reaching his decision on the proposals.
