§ Mr. Giles ShawAt the moment the Royal Ulster Constabulary undertakes rescues. However the Lough Erne advisory committee, which advises the Northern Ireland Department of Agriculture on the management of the lough, recommended earlier this year that a public meeting should be held to establish what degree of local interest there might be in setting up a voluntary rescue service.
A public meeting was held in Enniskillen on 30 October 1979 and a small steering committee was elected, which is now examining ways and means by which a voluntary rescue service could be manned, equipped and funded.
