§ Sir George YoungThe North-Western regional health authority's strategic plan estimates the need for geriatric beds in the Stockport area, based on the Department's guidelines, at 461 against a current total of 325. The area health authority has made proposals for increasing the number to 370 by 1982 and to 400 by 1989; this is in addition to a new geriatric unit at Stepping Hill hospital, with 48 beds and 50 day places, on which it is hoped to start work in 1986.
