HC Deb 12 November 1979 vol 973 cc464-5W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many people are currently employed by direct labour organisations in Scotland; and how they are distributed in terms of (a) new work and (b) repairs and maintenance.

Mr. Rifkind

The latest Joint Manpower Watch report showed 15,346 people—full-time equivalents—in local authority direct labour organisations in Scotland in June this year. A further 3,000 are similarly employed by new town development corporations and the Scottish Special Housing Association. Information on the distribution between those employed on new work and on repairs and maintenance is not held centrally.
