HC Deb 25 May 1979 vol 967 c329W
Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the increase needed in the £10 Christmas bonus to bring it up to its value in real terms when first introduced.

Mr. Prentice

On the basis of the movement in the general index of retail prices between December 1972, when the £10 Christmas bonus was first introduced, and April 1979, the latest date for which a figure is available, the bonus would have to be increased to £24.14 to restore its original value.
