§ Mr. Viggersasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether the Government are satisfied with the present laws requiring automatic water-sprinkler systems to control fires in buildings.
§ Mr. ArmstrongRegulations and statutes already require extensive precautions to be taken to protect the safety of people in buildings and it is not clear on present evidence that installing sprinkler systems in addition would improve them. Whether further provisions should be made for measures to protect property against fire is being considered as part of an interdepartmental review of fire losses and the deployment of resources on fire protection.
