§ 23. Mr. John H. Osbornasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what discussions he has had with the British Waterways Board, and Commissioner Burke, who has responsibility for 214W transport including Inland Waterways, of the Commission of the EEC, about waterborne transport of bulk commodities from the centre of England, and South Yorkshire via South Yorkshire Navigation, the North Sea, and Rhine to other Community markets.
§ Mr. ArmstrongNone as such. My right hon. Friend has of course been in close touch with the British Waterways Board about its proposal for improving the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation between Doncaster and Rotherham, which he approved in September last year, and an application has been made for European Regional Development Fund grant for the project. It is hoped that the project will stimulate waterborne traffic with Europe via the Humber ports.
