§ Mr. Michael Lathamasked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will give details of how Her Majesty's Government are seeking to protect the interests of the United Kingdom knitwear industry prior to the admission to the EEC of low-cost Mediterranean countries.
§ Mr. MeacherKnitted products are included in the bilateral agreements under the multi-fibre arrangement and, where appropriate, in the voluntary arrangements with the Mediterranean suppliers. It is intended that the accession treaties for the States that have applied to join the Community should include a safeguard clause which would enable action to be taken against disruptive imports during the transitional period.
