Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list in the Official Report those aids for disabled people which are provided by the Post Office and made available under the employment schemes.

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the following telephone aids are available from the Post Office to help handicapped customers overcome their difficulties:

  • Amplifying telephone handset
  • Extension bells
  • Magneto bell
  • small Magneto bell 4-inch gong
  • Magneto bell cow gong
  • Underdome bell
  • Card callmaker
  • Tape callmaker
  • Enlarged numeral dial ring
  • Enlarged numerical dial ring self adhesive
  • Faint speech amplifier
  • Lamp signalling handset—neon lamp in handset
  • Low voltage lamps
  • Lightweight headset No. 1
  • Lightweight headset No. 2
  • Loudspeaking telephone No. 1
  • Loudspeaking telephone No. 4
  • Push-button telephone
  • Push-button trimphone
  • Sender No. 1
  • Servophone
  • Trimphone
  • Watch receiver

The MSC, through its special aids to employment scheme, has provided some of these aids for use by disabled people at work and is able to arrange for any of them to be supplied to disabled people who, because of their disability, need them for employment purposes.
