The Government's policy is that children with specific learning difficulties should not be placed in special schools unless they have additional disabilities such as severe emotional or behavioural disorders. Those with reading, writing and spelling problems 867W should normally receive skilled remedial teaching in ordinary schools or, in some cases, in remedial or reading centres.
