§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs under what arrangements Her Majesty's Government are able to control the salaries paid to Members of the European Parliament.
§ Mr. JuddFollowing the European Council's decision on 4 and 5 December 1978, the Foreign Affairs Council agreed on 18 and 19 December 1978 that salaries of directly elected Members of the Assembly should be paid by Governments at rates determined nationally and subject to national taxation. The Government are considering what legislation will be necessary to implement this decision.
