HC Deb 07 March 1979 vol 963 c723W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether nationals of other EEC member States, resident in the United Kingdom but retaining their original nationality, will be eligible to vote in the direct elections to the European Assembly on 7 June for their own national members; what specific arrangements have been made between Her Majesty's Government and the Italian Government about Italian nationals resident here and wishing to vote; and whether he will publish details of any arrangements made for this purpose.

Mr. Judd

Arrangements to enable nationals of other member States resident in the United Kingdom to vote in the elections for their national members will depend on their respective Governments. The Government have agreed in principle to make specific arrangements with the Italian authorities to allow Italian nationals resident in the United Kingdom to vote in the Italian elections; details have not yet been decided. It will be for the Italian authorities to draw the arrangements to the attention of their citizens.
