§ Mr. Rifkindasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he is taking to restore to the nursing profession the same degree of comparability in the public sector, in respect of their incomes, as existed after the implementation of the Halsbury recommendations in 1974.
§ Mr. EnnalsI have suggested to the Nurses and Midwives Whitley Council that a comparability study would be the right way to ensure, for the longer term, that the pay of nurses may be kept in line with pay in other occupations. I have arranged to meet representatives of the Whitley Council today, to inform them of the Government's decisions on nurses' pay, including the basis for implementing the results of a comparability study.
