§ Mr. Altonasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will reconsider his intention to allow the Central Electricity Generating Board to build a pressurised water reactor plant such as that in use 43W at Three Mile Island, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
§ Mr. Norman LamontThe Central Electricity Generating Board and the Nuclear Power Company are reviewing the options for licensing PWR technology. The CEGB's intention to order a PWR remains subject to satisfactory completion of design work and to all Government and other consents and safety clearances being obtained. The implications of the Harrisburg accident for United Kingdom nuclear programmes will need to be assessed when we have the full facts, and it would be premature to reach conclusions at this stage.
