Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he intends to reorganise the National Health Service; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he intends to abolish the regional hospital authorities;

(3) if he intends to abolish the area health authorities.

The Government are committed to simplifying and decen- tralising the National Health Service, but we will not be putting forward proposals to achieve these objectives until we have received the report of the Royal Commission which is expected during the summer.
