HL Deb 19 June 1979 vol 400 cc957-8WA

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether at the all-European Summit Conference on Environmental Protection being held under the auspices of the Economic Commission for Europe, they will raise the question of the Soviet Union's River Reversal Programme and its possible effects on the Arctic Ocean as well as on the climate of Western Europe.

The Answer to the noble Lord's Question is that we have already expressed our concern to the Soviet Union about this programme at the Joint UK/USSR Environmental Protecttion Committee; and will continue to do so on future occasions, including at the meeting he refers to.

House adjourned at eighteen minutes past ten o'clock.
