Mr. Craigen

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his forecast for the rate of inflation by 3 May 1980.

Mr. Lawson

After reaching a peak of 17£ per cent, in November, the annual rate of inflation is forecast to decline to 13£ per cent, by the third quarter of 1980. I do not intend to publish a forecast path for inflation between those dates.
