HC Deb 18 June 1979 vol 968 cc444-5W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what is his estimate of the land available for public housing development in the London boroughs of Lambeth and Tower Hamlets (2) when, given the continuing encouraged movement of population from London to towns such as Northampton, he will be able to give an assessment as to the amount of land in central London that could be made available to stem this flow.

Mr. Stanley

The Department has no more information about housing land in inner London than was given by my hon. Friend on 11 June.—[Vol. 968, c. 59.60.] Although the later new towns are still receiving people from London, they are now looking to a wider area in the South.East for their population intake. New housing development in inner London can have only small effects on the population growth of individual new towns.
