§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, in the light of the strong objections on the part of many sections of the Asian population on mixed sex schools, whether he will facilitate the introduction of single sex schools for the children of these 356W Asians on the understanding that they pay the full costs and that no such costs will fall upon the Exchequer or local rates.
§ Dr. BoysonOnly independent schools are run at no direct cost to public funds. Any person wishing to establish an independent school, whether single sex or mixed sexed, is free to do so, subject only to compliance with the registration and inspection requirements of parts III and IV of the Education Act 1944.
