§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Lord Privy Seal whether, in support of the Government's declared policy of reducing public expenditure, he will take action to reduce the number of full and part-time members 233W of the Commonwealth Development Corporation and its executive management board from the existing 26 persons and its costs in the way of salaries and expenses, and to reduce the number of employees in the United Kingdom, which has increased in one year from nine to 16 with salaries ranging from £10,000 per annum to £30,000 per annum.
§ Mr. Neil MartenNo. The number of members of the corporation is in accordance with the requirements of section 1 of the Commonwealth Development Corporation Act 1978, and serves to provide a necessary range of experience. The organisation of the executive management board, and the remuneration of the staff of the corporation, are for the corporation to determine in the light of the statutory duties laid upon it, which include the requirement that the corporation should pay its way, taking one year with another.
