§ Mr. Stoddartasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now publish the evidence on which was based the ban on foreign Scientologists entering the United Kingdom to study or work at Scientology establishments.
§ Dr. VaughanI have been asked to reply.
It would not be appropriate for me to publish any such evidence, in the light of legal advice which the Government have received as to the propriety of making any statement on these matters pending the disposal of High Court actions for libel brought by the Church of Scientology. The hon. Member will be aware that the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration referred to this advice in his report on investigations completed—August to October 1978—HC 111 Session 1978–79—case No. 2/437/77 concerning a complaint about the ban on scientologists.
