Mr. Denzil Davies

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what resources and payments his Department has to ensure financial discipline in the private sector.

Mr. Lawson,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 25 May 1979; Vol. 967, c. 304], gave the following answer:

My Department has responsibility for a broad range of fiscal and monetary policy instruments which affect the behaviour of the private sector. The Government intend to use the full range of instruments as appropriate, as part of a sustained programme to curb inflation and create the conditions conducive to growth.
