HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 c501W
Mr. Nicholas Baker

asked the Lord Privy Seal what arrangements are in existence for assisting the repatriation of funds owed to British residents by the Bank of Zambia.

Mr. Luce

Due to a critical shortage of foreign exchange, the Zambian Government have been compelled to introduce arrangements for the repatriation of funds to be spread over a period of time. The delay in personal remittances at present averages 18 months. Her Majesty's Government are aware of the difficulties, and indeed hardship, this is causing to many British subjects, and have urged the Zambian Government to do everything possible to reduce these delays.
