HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 c630W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Minister of Transport what information has been obtained to estimate the incidence of traffic accidents arising from the wearing of seat belts; what evidence he has that the wearing of seat belts in any way restricts the agility and speed of reaction of drivers; and what evidence he has as to the effect of the wearing of seat belts on drivers who are suffering from fatigue.

Mr. Fowler

My information suggests that there is no correlation between the wearing of seat belts and drivers' involvement in accidents or the quality of their performance when driving.
