HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 cc507-8W
Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on his recent talks with Dr. Harold Brown in Washington; and if he will oppose new nuclear missiles for Europe.

Mr. Pym

I had useful talks in Washington with the United States' Secretary of Defence between 15 and 18 July on a wide range of defence issues against the background of the continuing growth in the Soviet Union's military power. I fully support the Alliance's aim of reaching decisions by the end of the year on the form of modernisation required for NATO's longer range theatre nuclear forces based in Europe, together with agreement on the associated arms control considerations.
