HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 cc597-8W
Mr. Bright

asked the Secretary of State for Trade (1) how many jobs will be lost if Luton airport is closed when the third London airport is built;

(2) whether Luton airport will be closed if the third London airport is built in the late 1980s;

(3) what the effect of building the third London airport on an inland site would be on the air services at present operated from Luton airport;

(4) whether Luton airport will be able to reach its projected capacity of five million passengers a year if the third London airport is built on an inland site.

Mr. Tebbit

The study group on South-East airports is considering the implications for Luton airport in its evaluation of the six sites for a possible new London airport. I expect to receive its advice in the autumn.
