HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 c580W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the timetable for the acceptance, construction and commissioning of the United Kingdom's first light water reactor for power generation.

Mr. John Moore

The intention to build a pressurised water reactor in the United Kingdom is subject to satisfactory completion of design work and to all necessary Government and other consents being obtained. The Central Electricity Generating Board and the Nuclear Power Company are still considering the options for licensing PWR technology in the United Kingdom and the earliest date for a start on site would be 1982. It is too soon to say how long construction would take.
