§ Mr. Arthur Lewis
asked the Lord Privy Seal whether, in the light of the Government's policy of cutting public expenditure, he will re-examine the proposals of the Central Policy Review Staff report on the foreign services and implement its recommendations; and what would be the estimated annual savings of such an exercise.
§ Mr. Hurd
No. It is impossible to make meaningful estimates of the costs and savings that would arise if the Central Policy Review Staff report's 280 recommendations were adopted.
As part of their review of public expenditure the Government are making their own examination of the United Kingdom's overseas representation.
