HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 c685W
Dr. Glyn

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how long the present allowance of £1.25 for blind persons has been fixed at the current rate; and what plans he has for the future of this allowance.

Mr. Prentice

The differential above the ordinary scale rates which allows blind persons a margin of £1.25 over the single householder scale rate has been in existence, at that rate, since 1962. The future of the differential is one of the questions being considered following the recent review of the supplementary benefits scheme on which no decision has so far been made.
