asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether cuts are proposed in the BBC overseas service to Africa, Asia and South West Europe.

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN and COMMONWEALTH AFFAIRS (Lord Carrington)

The Government are engaged in reviewing all aspects of future plans for public expenditure. The conclusions reached will be published, as usual, in the Public Expenditure White Paper.
