Thames Flood Barrier

Mr. Cartwright

asked the Minister of Agriculture Fisheries and Food what is his latest estimate of the cost of (a) the Thames flood barrier and (b) the associated defence works.

Mr. Wiggin

The estimated costs at March 1979 prices are as follows:

(a) Thames Barrier	£363 million
(b) Associated Flood defences	£237 million

Mr. Cartwright

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he now expects the Thames flood barrier and the associated river defence works to be completed.

Mr. Wiggin

I am advised by the Greater London Council, which is responsible for the construction of the barrier, that completion is expected by December 1982. The associated defences are expected to be completed by the same date.
