HC Deb 26 July 1979 vol 971 cc371-2W
Mr. Jim Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is his estimate of the number of executives and trade unionists already covered by the national awareness programmes under the microprocessor application project; and what is the Government's target.

Mr. David Mitchell

In December 1978, the Department of Industry set a target of reaching 50,000 executives and trade unionists by the end of 1981. By the end of June 1979, our estimates indicate that some 36,843 executives and trade unionists had already been reached. Of these, some 11,000 were trade unionists and some 25,000 executives. We are confident that we shall hit our 50,000 target before the end of this year, some two years ahead of schedule.

Mr. Jim Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many days of consultants' time his Department requires before approving a feasibility study under the microprocessor application programme; and whether his Department monitors reports after the studies are completed.

Mr. David Mitchell

I shall reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
