Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many persons have been brought before the courts for operating unlicensed gaming machines in Northern Ireland in each of the past three years.

Mr. Rossi,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 24 July 1979, Vol. 971, c.191],gave the following answer:

The information is as follows:

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many premises are licensed to operate gaming machines in Northern Ireland; how many machines are involved; what types of establishments he licenses; and on which statutory authority such a licence is issued.

Mr. Rossi,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 24 July 1979; Vol. 971, c.191],gave the following answer:

633 establishments are currently licensed under the Miscellaneous Transferred Excise Duties Act (Northern Ireland) 1972 to operate 2,230 gaming machines. Licences are generally issued to all applicants.

The types of establishments for which licences are issued are:

Sports Clubs 167
Social Clubs 312
British Legion Clubs 31
RUC Recreation Clubs 38
Amusement Arcades 36
Others (cafes etc) 49
Total 633
