asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to designate sports grounds in the second division of the Football League under the provisions of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.

Mr. Brittan

We intend very shortly to make an order under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975 extending designation to the grounds of football clubs in the second division of the Football League. The order would come into operation on 1 January 1980 with a view to safety certificates being issued by the beginning of the 1980–81 football season.
