HL Deb 25 July 1979 vol 401 c2029WA
Lord RUGBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will review as a matter of urgency the monopoly franchise in reading spectacles enjoyed by the ophthalmic trade since 1951.

Lord CULLEN of ASHBOURNE

The Opticians Act 1958 reserves to doctors and opticians the right to test sight and to sell or supply optical appliances in the interests of maintaining appropriate professional standards.

So far as I have been able to discover, no representations calling for such a review have been received.
