HL Deb 25 July 1979 vol 401 c2030WA
Lord CHELWOOD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What plans they have to publish a book on environmental education; broadly what ground it will cover; what will be its objects; what its initial distribution will be; and with which statutory or voluntary bodies they are consulting before approving the final text.

The MINISTER of STATE, DEPARTMENT of EDUCATION and SCIENCE (Baroness Young)

Her Majesty's Inspectors have recently issued a working paper on environmental education in their series of discussion papers on the curriculum 11–16. My right honourable and learned friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science also expects to publish a report on environmental education in due course. This will survey recent developments in environmental education in the United Kingdom in the light of the recommendations of the Intergovernmental Conference on Environmental Education organised by UNESCO at Tbilisi, USSR, in October 1977. Before the text is completed consultations will take place with Government departments concerned with environmental matters, the Nature Conservancy Council and the Council for Environmental Education. The publication will be available to all environmental education interests.
