§ Mr. Brothertonasked the Secretary of State for Trade what are the activities of the Insurance Advisory Panel; how many people it employs; and what is the cost to public funds in the latest year for which figures are available.
§ Mr. EyreThe Insurance Advisory Panel, consisting of 17 persons with a wide range of experience in insurance matters advises me, as and when asked to do so, on the exercise of my powers under the Insurance Companies Act 1974. The panel has no employees and secretrial services are provided as part of the normal duties of officials in my Department. The appointments are unpaid but travel and subsistence costs are met from public funds. In 1978–79 these amounted to £115.45.
