Mr. Coleman

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what his intentions are in respect of the management structure of the Health Service in the Principality in the light of the proposals of the Royal Commission on the National Health Service chaired by Sir Alec Merrison.

The Government will put forward proposals in a document later this year on which they will invite early comments from interests affected.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of the £233 million savings in regional aid will be achieved by the down grading of the Merthyr area to development area status.

The proportion of the £223 million savings in regional selective assistance and factory building attributable to the effect of the downgrading of the Merthyr TTWA cannot be estimated. However, so far as regional development grant is concerned, published figures of payments in this area in 1978–79 totalled £904,000. On this basis savings of regional development grant are estimated to be £300,000 annually by 1982–83.
