§ Mr. Fauldsasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is his policy with regard to the renovation and extension of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. St. John-StevasThe Arts Council's grant-in-aid for 1979–80 includes a special grant of £1 million to the Covent Garden building appeal fund. In addition, negotiations are taking place for the purchase by the Government of the freehold of the Royal Opera House. These two items of expenditure will substantially assist the Royal Opera House in its efforts, which I wholeheartedly support, to improve and extend its accommodation.
