HL Deb 04 July 1979 vol 401 cc496-7WA
Lord KENNET

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the maximum liability of the companies wishing to operate into Mossmorran/Braefoot for compensation in the event of accidental or negligent spills and explosions.

Lord TREFGARNE

The ordinary rules of law would apply to the determination of liability and compensation for damage caused by a spill or explosion of liquefied petroleum gas. In incidents involving a ship, the amount of compensation available could be subject to overall limits of liability which are laid down in international maritime law and which vary according to the size of vessel involved.
