§ Mr. Allan Roberts
asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list in the Official Report the total474W
dinners receive fresh meat; what is the minimum amount of meat, fish, in ounces, or eggs recommended per child per meal; and to what extent meat has been replaced by texturised vegetable protein.
§ Dr. Boyson
My Department does not collect information about what food is provided in the school dinner, nor does it recommend minimum amounts of particular items of food. Departmental circular 3/66 dated 26 January 1966 set out recommended nutritional standards—of protein, energy and fat—and the appendix to that circular showed an illustrative pattern of main dishes and the related types and quantities of food which would meet the nutritional requirements.
