HC Deb 02 July 1979 vol 969 cc495-6W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he has prepared contingency plans to deal with transport problems if nurses who have to use their cars to work decide not to do so in protest against the new car-user allowances.

Dr. Vaughan

It would be for each health authority to make suitable arrangements in the light of local circumstances if such a development arose. I am sure, however, that nurses will recognise the value of the two substantial increases in mileage allowances, from 1 April and 1 June 1979, which have just been agreed by the general Whitley council and also will have regard to the comprehensive review of present arrangements which the council has set in train.
