§ Mr. Canavan
asked the Attorney-General whether, in the light of the Thorpe trial, he will introduce a prosecution system similar to the Scottish system where the press are not allowed to report 441W the preliminary hearing of evidence before a trial commences.
§ Mr. Whitelaw
I have been asked to reply.
The prosecution system in England and Wales is under review by the Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure.
I have no present plans for Government legislation of the kind proposed.
