§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Minister of Overseas Development, in the light of Government policy for the reduction of smoking in the interest of good health, if she will raise in the Food and Agriculture Organisation the policy to promote the growing of tobacco by underdeveloped countries; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mrs. HartThe Food and Agricultural Organisation already occupies itself with this matter in close co-operation with the World Health Organisation. The World Health Organisation is invited to participate in all Food and Agricultural Organisation governmental groups and panels dealing with tobacco.
The Food and Agricultural Organisation has not embarked on new tobacco projects since 1976, following a resolution on smoking and health by the World Health Assembly. The British delegation to the World Health Assembly last year co-sponsored a resolution calling on WHO to increase resources devoted to the reduction of cigarette smoking.
