§ Mr. Matherasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about the ending of the extradition treaty between Great Britain and Spain.
§ Mr. LuardThe Spanish embassy gave notice on 13 April 1978 of its Government's wish to terminate the extradition treaty. An offer to negotiate a new treaty was made to the Spanish Government with the aim of avoiding a period with no treaty in force. The termination notice remained effective, however, and the treaty terminated on 13 October 1978. Correspondence is continuing with the 169W Spanish authorities with a view to finding a mutually acceptable basis for negotiation of a new treaty.
