Mr. Ovenden

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what recent representations he has received from Civil Service trade unions concerning the exclusion of civil servants from tax concessions on overseas earnings; what replies he has given; and if he will make a statement concerning his policy on this matter.

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 17th January 1979; Vol. 960, c. 781],gave the following answer

At a meeting with representatives of the Staff Side of the Civil Service National Whitley Council last October I undertook that their representations about tax relief for overseas earnings would be fully taken into account in the preparations for this year's Finance Bill.
