Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Defence what figures are available for the number of Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Naval personnel used in recruitment for each of these Services; and what estimates are available for the numbers of these staff who could be redeployed if prestige town centre recruiting offices were replaced by jobcentre recruitment.
§ Mr. WellbelovedThere are approximately 1,800 regular Service personnel serving with the recruiting organisation, some 450 in the Navy, 830 in the Army 689W and 525 in the RAF. They are engaged on all aspects of recruiting and not merely the staffing of careers information offices. As I told my hon. Friend on 21st November, we are looking at ways of making the most effective use of jobcentres but this is not in itself likely to lead to large reductions in staff.
