asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied with the arrangements to protect life and property in the event of a major flood in London caused by a North Sea surge pending the completion of the Thames flood barrier.

Plans to deal with the effects of flooding should the river defences be overtopped in London are the responsibility of the borough councils, co-ordinated by the Greater London Council. I understand that these plans 249W are maintained at a high standard of readiness.
